Join us at Ang Mo Kio Secondary's biennial Arts Festival, "NOMAD", as we explore the theme of "1 9 6 4" in July 2008. NOMAD represents a continually evolving tradition of the arts in our school. This year, 1500 students will be involved in this mega project that integrates the various disciplines of drama, dance, music and visual arts. This year's production of NOMAD has a even stronger community basis. Efforts have made been to reach out to involve performers and artists staying in the vicinity to tap on their talent and share them with the community at large. Since 2005, the school has in place an Integrated Arts Programme, where pupils are exposed to dance at the Secondary One level and drama at the Secondary Two level. In alternate years, we tap on the rich and vibrant aesthetic programme to prepare the students for an integrated Arts Festival. This year, students are also exposed to opportunities to work with 5 visual artists who have worked with the students in producing creative visual arts pieces conceptualized by the artists themselves. The students work will be a feast to the eyes as they emulate the techniques of art in the1960s and produce artwork in tribute to those groundbreaking times. During the first half of the year, students are asked to explore the theme of "1 9 6 4", a theme which is not just the year before Singapore became independent, but also the life, aspirations and living conditions of people of Ang Mo Kio in the sixties. NOMAD is the culmination of pupils work as they set the stage with their performances and interpretation of what they deem noteworthy of the 60s. Begin the evening by meeting your friends at Rendezvous, the meeting place at the entrance of the school. Here, you can sort out your programme and tickets logistics. Then proceed to Kopitiam, where you watch scenes from a neighbourhood coffeeshop come alive while taking a sip of coffee. Enter into a world of choices, where you can regale in Creepy Tales, where performers will share with you a tale or two of shadowy tales before you dive headlong into Cheng San De Yi (C.S.D.Y), where you can relive memories of our heritage of days gone by. Or you can explore the area of Big Boss, a place where you can browse through an arts gallery, look at Madame's fashion or even shop at Ali Baba's. Come down to Dancehall, a world of music and dance where you can forget your woes away. We are sure there is a little something for everybody, be it art, drama, music, dance or even food. The choices are a plenty. So relax, take a deep breathe and plunge right into our colourful and exciting programme. Don't forget to make a date with us. We promise you an evening that you will remember for a long time to come. |
