On
28 August 2003, Outram Secondary School held our 97th
Anniversary-cum-Speech Day celebrations. Many honoured guests joined us
on this special occasion. Our Guest-0f-Honour was Mr Koh Cher Siang,
Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the Inland Revenue Authority of
Singapore and Chairman of the Public Accountants Board. |

|
The
formal event began in the school hall with a speech by our principal,
(Click here to read the full text of the
speech) Mrs. Serene Pang, who touched on various developments on
the school in the past year and the journey towards excellence and
distinction that the school will be embarking on. |
|
This
was followed by our Guest-of-Honour, Mr Koh Cher Siang, who addressed us
on how hard work and daring to dream are vital ingredients in the
pursuit of success for Outramian. (Click here
to read the full text of the speech). Our valedictorian for 2002,
Shaun Chua also spoke about his experiences in Outram Secondary. |

|
Next,
prizes for academic and Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) excellence were
presented. Following the prize-giving ceremony, the Dance Club presented
an elegant item entitled “Falling
Leaves". The item, which won the 2003 Central Judging of Dances
(Silver Award), symbolises how falling leaves in autumn captivate and
fulfil our senses. This was followed by a
charming Malay dance item, “Canggai”, symbolising the celebration of
a community in conjunction with an important event. The dancers wore
gold and silver sheaths on their fingers. These sheaths are used only
during important performances such as to welcome distinguished persons
to the community. |

|
After
the performance, guests were introduced to Outram’s new history
walkway in the school atrium, which showcased 97 years of Outram’s
achievements and reiterated our commitment to inspiring our pupils to
learn with passion, pursue their wildest dreams and design their lives
to their best of their abilities. They were also introduced to our
Design Corner which exhibited the items produced by our pupils who
underwent the inaugural Design Programme. |
 |
The
final highlight of the evening was the launch of new Outram By Mr Koh
Cher Siang. With inspiring music as the backdrop, Outram’s new water
façade was declared open, marking a new chapter for Outram Secondary
that would lead to Outram becoming a hallmark of excellence as it
approaches its centennial celebrations. |
