Rules and Regulations

All Andersonians are individuals capable of accepting responsibilities towards themselves, their peers and teachers. Andersonians take pride in themselves and the school by:

1. respecting themselves, their elders as well as their peers.

2 being gracious.

3. being always punctual.

4. being diligent.

5. being always neat and proper in their appearance.

6. avoiding unlawful activities.

7. respecting school property.

(A) General Order & Security

1. Classrooms and Special Rooms

  • Students are to obtain the teacher’s permission before leaving the classroom.
  • Students are to adhere to the 5-minute breaks in the timetable strictly.

2. Corridors and Staircases

Students are to move quietly, briskly and in an orderly manner.

3. Canteen and Library Café

Students must:

  • queue for food and drinks.
  • eat and drink in the canteen and library café only.
  • buy food and drinks only during recess and outside formal curriculum time.
  • return all used crockery to the bins provided by the canteen vendors.

4. Attendance

  • Students are to obtain permission from the office prior to leaving the school premises during formal curriculum time.
  • Absence from school shall only be permitted when a medical certificate or parent’s letter stating special reasons other than medical supports it. However, the school reserves the right to ask students to stay back for constructive work after school dismissal.

5. Flag-raisng/Pledge-taking

  • All students are to be neatly assembled at the carpark by 0720 hrs for the flag-raising ceremony.
  • Students who are Singapore citizens must sing the National Anthem and take the Pledge with the right fist placed over the heart.
  • All students are to wear the school tie and sing the School Song every Monday.
  • All students are to pay full attention and are not supposed to carry anything in their hands.

6. Security/Unlawful Activities

  • Students are to report injuries and unlawful activities to the office immediately.
  • Strangers in the school ( i.e. those not wearing valid passes ) must be reported to the office immediately.
  • School bags and valuables ( if any ) are to be taken along to the special rooms for lessons. During PE and CCA sessions, wallets and any other valuables are to be left with the teacher-in-charge for safe-keeping. If a classroom is used to keep the students’ belongings during CCA sessions, the student leader must lock the classroom and hold on to the key to the room throughout the session. This leader must supervise entry to the room at all times. The key must not be transferred to any other person.
  • The use of mini portable sound systems, mobile phones and other communicative devices in the school is prohibited during curriculum time ( inclusive of remedial classes, additional lessons and enrichment activities ) tests and examinations and CCAs. These items will be confiscated when they are seen or heard during the times described above. If students are caught in possession of mobile phones and other communicative devices during tests/examinations, regardless whether the mobile phones and other communicative devices are switched on or off, they will be deemed as having committed a dishonest act and will be subject to the appropriate consequences ( refer to section D ). All students are advised to keep these items in their lockers when not using them.
  • Smoking, betting, gambling, playing with cards ( of any sort ) or taking part in any unauthorized collection of money is strictly prohibited.
  • No student is allowed to trespass into classrooms that belong to other classes. Students are to report trespassers immediately. Trespassers will be severely dealt with.

 

(B) Appearance

1. School Uniform

Students are to wear the prescribed school uniform and modification to the uniform is not allowed.

  • Girls
    • Kelly blue tunic. White blouse with pointed shirt collar and short sleeves.
    • Tunic must be knee length.
    • Belts must be properly worn at the waist ( i.e. not loosely ) at all times, together with the uniform.
    • Girls are to wear the school tie every Monday and at formal school functions.
  • Boys
    • White shorts for Lower Sec / long pants for Upper Sec with side pockets or hind pockets only and white shirt with short sleeves. No bell bottoms are allowed. The shorts / long pants must be worn properly ( i.e. not loosely ) at the waist at all times.
    • No belts are to be worn and no combs, handkerchiefs or wallets are to be seen sticking out from the hind pockets.
    • Boys are to wear the school tie every Monday and at formal school functions.
    • Boys are to tuck in their shirts at all times.
  • School badges must be worn 2 cm above the breast-pocket for boys and on the tunic for girls. Students without badges are to buy one immediately.
  • Nametags must be worn at all times directly below the school badge. Students without nametags are to order one immediately and obtain an official receipt from the bookshop as proof.
  • No sleeves are to be rolled up.
  • Students are allowed to wear school uniform or half school-uniform when they come to school on casual Fridays / Saturdays / during school vacation. The school T-shirt instead of the blouse / shirt worn with the tunic or trousers constitutes half-uniform. Class T-shirts are allowed on casual Fridays only and must satisfy the school's specifications. The school /class T-shirt must be tucked in ( for boys ) and worn under the tunic ( for girls ) at all times. However, all students are expected to be attired in full school uniform during examinations. For shoes and socks, students are to adhere to the standard indicated in (vii). Slippers are not allowed at all times. Sandals with straps are to be worn in cases of feet injury.
  • Outlandish spectacle frames / tinted spectacles / coloured contact lenses are not allowed.
  • White canvas shoes and plain white socks must be worn. White ankle socks are allowed and must be visible above the shoe opening when worn.
  • Jewellery, except watches, is not allowed. However, girls are allowed to wear only one pair of gold/silver small ear studs on their ear-lobes. Ear-sticks are not allowed.
  • Proper PE attire must be worn for PE. By the end of recess, all students are to change back into their school uniforms.
  • Proper PE attire / sports gear or CCA attire must be worn for sports / games or CCA respectively.
  • The school/CCA T-shirt or sports vest must be tucked in at all times .

2. Hair and Nails

  • Girls must wear their hair neatly at all times. Dangling hair is not allowed. Long hair for girls must be tied back with navy blue or black clips/ribbons.
  • Boys must keep short hair. Perming is not allowed. Boys’ hair must be above the collar, sloped at the back, be above eyebrows and without sideburns. Moustache or beard is not allowed.
  • Neither boys nor girls are permitted to tint or highlight their hair.
  • Outlandish hairstyles, especially spiky hairstyles, are not allowed.
  • Nails must be kept short and free from nail polish.

3. School Property

  • Students are to treat all school property with respect and refrain from any form of vandalism.
  • School premises, including classrooms and toilets, must be kept clean and tidy at all times.

 

(C) Students Leaving School During School Hours

  • If a student is not well and can go home by himself/herself, his/her parent/guardian will be informed by the form teacher / office staff. A parent or relative taking a student home before school dismissal must produce his/her identity card and sign out before the student is released. The names of such students must be recorded in the book/file provided for this purpose in the office.
  • Students must obtain permission to leave the school premises from the Principal, Vice Principal or Head of Department / Level Coordinator).
  • For official leave, students must produce a letter from the parent/guardian, addressed to the Principal. Approval is given on a case-by-case basis.

(D) List of Major Offences

The following list shows the four categories of major offences. Major offences are punishable by caning ( for boys ) and detention class ( for girls ) . Recalcitrants may be suspended from class/school and may eventually be expelled from school.

1. Attendance

  • leaving school grounds without permission
  • skipping lessons
  • truancy
  • wilful absenteeism
  • other related offences

2. Misconduct

  • cheating ( If a student commits a dishonest act during a test/examination, he/she will get zero marks for the test/examination as well. )
  • forgery
  • open defiance / rudeness
  • use of vulgarities
  • bullying ( verbal and non-verbal forms )
  • other serious misconduct

3. Theft / Damage of Property*

  • arson / fire mischief
  • theft / shop theft ( formerly known as shoplifting )
  • vandalism
  • other related offences

4. Other Serious Offences*

  • assault / fighting
  • gangsterism / intimidation
  • pornography
  • possession of weapons
  • smoking / possession of tobacco products
  • substance / drug abuse
  • trespassing
  • other serious offences
