This file was developed by Yue-Ling Wong. It uses shockwave. If you have played the game TETRIS before, it should be easy and helps you to remember the position of the elements.

Periodic TablETRIS (New Features: Hints and the Hall Of Fame Now Available!)

This page was created by Yue-Ling Wong (Knowledge by Design).

Objective:
This exercise (or you may call it a game!) is designed to enhance your memory of the element position in the Periodic Table.

Instructions:
This demo includes the first 12 elements in the Periodic Table.
When the game starts, these elements will rise slowly, one at a time, from the bottom of the screen.
To move the element horizontally: Use the Left/Right arrow keys, or the "j" and "l" keys. The arrow keys work for Netscape, not Internet Explorer.
When you think you have moved the element in the Group it belongs to, hit the Up arrow key, or the "i" key to move it to the top.
To get hint: Hit the SHIFT key, and a red circle will show you where the element position should be in the Periodic Table. You will lose some points, though.
You get points by placing the element in the correct Group.
If it is in the wrong position, it will beep, lose point, and the letter block/or the letter of the element will turn white, and stick there.
Simple enough, right? Yeah, if you have played the Tetris game before, this may sound familiar to you. But the elements rise up from the bottom instead of dropping down from the top.
How to get higher score: Place the element in the correct position as fast as possible, especially for the higher atomic number elements.
If you get a higher score than the current Hall Of Fame record, you can submit your high score and your initial to our Hall Of Fame. NOTE: After you submit your high record, you may need to Clear Disk Cache in order to see your new record on the Hall Of Fame. The Hall Of Fame was reset on October 28, 1997. Good Luck!

In case you need a Periodic Table, now here are the first 12 elements. Remember them, and try to play without looking them up. OK? Anyway, you can call up the hint while you are playing by hitting the SHIFT key.
1 H (hydrogen), 2 He (helium), 3 Li (lithium), 4 Be (beryllium), 5 B (boron), 6 C (carbon), 7 N (nitrogen), 8 O (oxygen), 9 F (fluorine), 10 Ne (neon), 11 Na (sodium), 12 Mg (magnesium).
