About the Department

Vision
A Caring Community of Responsible Learners

Mission
To develop students into responsible, respectful, confident and caring individuals.

The vision of our Character Development Programme is closely aligned with the School Vision of ‘Passionate Learners, Upright Citizens’.

We aim to nurture upright and responsible citizens, learning and thinking individuals who possess the self-confidence to face the challenges of the knowledge based economy. We also want to inculcate a sense of empathy in East Springians in being sensitive to the feelings of others in school, family and the community. Thus we align the Vision of our Character Development Programme with the School Vision of ‘Passionate Learners, Upright Citizens’. The five social-emotional competencies are well-integrated into the school values, viz Responsibility, Integrity, Sincerity, Empathy (RISE).

The school values as well as SEL goals and standards form the focus in the planning of school programmes in support of Character Development. The Character Development Framework integrates the 8 key programmes. Activities are designed to ensure that the school values and the social-emotional competencies can be effectively applied. Values education is imparted through:
  • ‘RISE’ Lessons: weekly lifeskills courses and SEL –infused activities are conducted, strongly anchored on school values
  • ‘Success for Living’(SFL) Programme: weekly enrichment programmes are organised to cater to the diverse needs of different segments of the school population. Efforts are made to complement activities conducted by external vendors as well as self-designed activities planned by school personnel.
  • Opportunities for performance character are provided through RISE projects, nomination of STARs Award and planning and execution of CIP projects.
At East Spring, our Character Development Programme is constantly being reviewed and upgraded to ensure that students will have a vibrant and enriching programme for holistic development.
