Guideline on the Usage of Hand Phones in School
Students are
not allowed to bring handphones to school. There are sufficient public telephones in school for the students’ use. In case of emergency, the office phones are available for students’ use.
Rationale:
- This is to prevent theft of handphones. There are many students whose parents are not able to provide handphones for their children. Students flouting their handphones would only promote theft amongst the student population.
- This is to prevent students from messaging their friends during curriculum time, thus not paying attention to lessons being taught in class.
- Students would misuse their handphones in school, particularly invading the privacy of their schoolmates and cheating in class during formal assessments.
School Policy on Smoking
Students caught smoking within and outside the school premises are liable to be caned in school. Those caught with lighters, cigarettes, tobacco etc are also subject to the same punishment.
In the case of female smokers, they would be suspended from school in lieu of caning. The names of all those caught smoking would also be sent to the HSA for further action.
Rationale:
- Smoking is bad for the health and is extremely addictive. The school wants to ensure that students do not pick up this habit during their formative years in school. Moreover smoking, under the age of 18 is against the law. Students found in the company of smokers would also be punished by the school.
Rationale:
-
Students are encouraged not to be in the company of smokers as they would breathe in second-hand smoke which is just as harmful. Being in the company of smokers would only serve to encourage these non-smokers to pick up the habit. Moreover, supporting these smokers (by being in their company) would only encourage them to smoke more.
Policy on Latecoming
Students who report to school after the 0725 school bell has gone are considered late for school.
If the students report to school late
>4 times per semester, they would have to attend detention class, failing which they would be suspended from school.
Recalcitrant students who report to school late
>6 times per semester would be suspended from school. The number of days of suspension would increase accordingly.
Rationale:
The school regards punctuality as a very important virtue. Students must be taught to be responsible for their actions and be considerate to others. By being late for school, they not only upset normal school proceedings but also interrupt lessons Students who choose to be persistently late for school show their disinterest in their studies.
Students who report to school after the first period will be sent home after parents have been informed by the office (by phone). Students would be allowed to join the class under extenuating circumstances, in which case, a letter from the parents is compulsory
Rationale:
- The school cannot be responsible for the absence of the students from 0725 to 0800.
