To
meet the challenges of the 21st century, our pupils need to be independent
and
confident learners capable of learning, unlearning and relearning.
As teachers, it is our duty to ignite the pupils’ passion for learning.
They must be
engaged in their learning and find meaning in what they learn. Hence,
teachers need to constantly seek to strengthen teaching and learning in
schools.
They need to adopt different strategies that allow pupils to see connection
between
the various subjects, as well as, the connection between learning and
real life
situations.
Teachers employ different teaching strategies to get pupils actively engaged
in
learning. Learning centres are created within the classrooms and pupils
participate in group
activities.
Special
Programme
There
is a special reading programme for the Primary 1 & 2 – HARP
(Hildan Avid
Readers’ Programme). The Parent Support Group runs this programme.
Pupils
read to a group of parent volunteers and are awarded different colour
badges as they progress
in their ability.
This programme has helped encourage our pupils to read consistently. Children,
parents and teachers find the programme very useful to help promote reading
at a young age.
