JuVAL Project
(Jurong West Primary School Video Applications for Learning)

What is the project about?

Jurong West Primary has been selected by MOE as a LEAD-ICT school and the school has embarked on a project to construct a media studio to support the creation of video and audio resources for teaching and learning as well as for sharing among schools.

The project intends to set up an environment for teachers and pupils that enhances the use of video applications in the school.

Who is involved?

A group of 19 teachers from various department such as English, Mathematics, Science, Mother Tongue, Art and PE were selected and they were trained in 2006 on video production.

How did the teachers benefit from these learning opportunities?

With the implementation of the above in 2006, teachers had learnt the skills of scripting, video shooting and video editing using.

They also learnt about other matters such as copyright, art of lighting and creating backdrop for shooting during the training process.

How did the pupils benefit from these learning opportunities?

In 2007, the P5 pupils will be creating short video clips on values for their Inter-disciplinary Project Work.

Through the video production process, they will develop some soft skills such as leadership skills, organisation skills, social skills and communcation skills. They will also learn to be independent learners in the process.

Video can be used as an alternative mode of assessment and the production process will be able to engage the pupils in their learning.
