Message
It has often been said that change is our only constant and
that the sooner we embrace this reality, the better prepared
we are for the future. It has also been said that unless we
appreciate history and understand where we have come from,
we stand to lose our sense of grounding, identity and direction.
I am very grateful to God for the many
wonderful blessings He has bestowed on Kuo Chuan Presbyterian
Primary School (KCPPS). Chief amongst these is the team of
very hardworking and committed teachers and support staff.
Their dedication to and care for our children have been a
source of encouragement to me. Another joy for me has been
the ardent support given by members of the Parent Support
Volunteer Group (PSVG). Their enthusiasm, understanding and
selfless service have truly been a source of blessing to me
and my staff. In the coming years, how we build on these strengths
will in a large part impact on the quality of education we
provide for our children.
As a school we cannot exist as a transactional
organization where we merely provide educational service to
the public. Rather this community, made up of educators, service
staff, parents and pupils, must be one that cares deeply about
one another's well-being and progress even as it strives towards
educational excellence. The school ecology is a dynamic one
and its health is very much dependant on the quality of interaction
and relationship within the community. Through sincere and
open dialogue, not only are we building sturdier bridges of
communication but also a more fertile culture of trust and
care.
As the world changes, so do the criteria
for success. What seemed to work for one at a certain point
in history cannot be recycled towards similar success. As
with any renewal, change is to be expected and with change,
growth and growth demands a temporary surrender of security
on our part. Even as we initiate and manage change, it is
important to appreciate the legacy of the past and hold the
two in balance. In the years ahead, we will need to channel
our energies towards nurturing our children to be 21st citizens
who not only possess the relevant skills and competencies
to compete with the best in the world but are also imbued
with a heart that is bent on loving God and putting others'
needs before one's own. This is the legacy of the pioneers
who built Kuo Chuan Presbyterian; this is also my mission
and challenge.
" Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain
who build it
"
