Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)

Overview

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) plays a key role in the holistic development of all Kent Ridgeans. We currently offer 18 CCAs that can be classified into the 4 different categories:

Uniformed Groups

NCDCC

The National Civil Defence Cadet Corp (NCDCC) was introduced to KRSS in January 2006, and become one of the 18 schools in the whole of Singapore to be set up. It is closely affiliated with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in terms of its doctrines and related training or activities. The NCDCC in KRSS effectively replaced the St John's Ambulance Brigade in the school. The current cadets are made up of the newly joined Secondary 1 students, and newly-converted students from the Secondary 2 and 3 Levels.

National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC)

The MISSION of the National Police Cadet Corps is to develop its cadets into caring and responsible citizens.

The VISION of the National Police Cadet Corps is to mould the builders of a safe and secure home.

NPCC cadets go through a structured training programme throughout their 4-5 years of cadetship which allows them to be able to acquire and develop leadership skills, sound character, resilience, physical and mental strength as well as care and concern for others.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Kent Ridge NCC have always instill the NCC 7 Core Values in our cadets through various activities.

The Girls' Brigade

The Girls' Brigade is one of the oldest Christian uniformed youth organizations for girls in the world. It's mission for the 21st century is to develop each girl to her fullest potential by equipping, empowering and enabling every girl to be a leader.

Over the last three years, the 54 th Company of the Girls' Brigade in Kent Ridge Secondary has grown steadily in strength with the dedicated support of the volunteer officers from the sponsoring Bible Church. The girls have also participated in many interesting and enriching activities aimed at developing the girls spiritually, physically, intellectually and socially.

The Boy' Brigade

The 74th company started in 2000 with 7 boys and has grown to about 60 members strong. Our programme is run by volunteers from the Bible Church. We have a whole range of activities such as devotions, drills, Lifeskills, kayaking, rockwall climbing, archery and yearly camps that help our boys learn habits of Obedience, Discipline, Self-respect and true Christian manliness. We aim to be the Uniformed Group of choice in KRSS.

Sports

Badminton (Boys)

Vision: To be able to improve our skills everyday.

Motto: To conquer the sky like the phoenix.

Badminton (Girls)

Our badminton girls have had regular trainings every Mondays and Fridays to prepare themselves with various game strategies, techniques and skills needed for tournaments. They will be participating in the Annual Singapore Sports Council South Zone Badminton Tournament which will commence at the end of January next year. Training will be stepped up to 3 times a week during the Nov-Dec holidays with a short break in between.

Some girls had the chance to hone their skills and competition edge in friendly matches with Pioneer Secondary School and Crescent Girls' School during the June holidays. The exposure served as a motivation to spur them on in their training and to ensure that they are at their optimal performance in future tournaments.

Basketball

The school is proud to engage an ex-National Coach and ex-National Player, Mr. Ng Hang Kee, to coach the team. The boys have soared from his mentoring, abundant knowledge and experience in the game.

Besides the school team, we also cater to students who have an interest in the game by providing them with a recreational group. This is an avenue for the students to build their foundation and basic skills.

Through training and greater exposure, we hope our players will mature in the game and join the ranks of the school team members to bring glory to Kent Ridge in the South Zone Competitive sporting arena in the years to come.

Soccer

The Kent Ridge soccer boys take part regularly in training sessions and tournaments, from which they learnt valuable lessons in discipline, commitment and team work.

As a result, many of the players have moved on to compete at the Singapore League as well as the National level. In addition, they are committed to serving the society and caring for the less fortunate through various Community Involvement Projects.

Peforming Arts

Dance Club

The Kent Ridge Dance Club was set up in 2002 with a strength of 18 members. Under the patient guidance of the teachers, and the tireless tutelage of the dance choreographer, Mr Benedict Soh, who inspired the girls and nurtured in them the love for artistic movements and the knowledge of dance as an art form, the girls quickly flourished into graceful dancers.

Drama Club

The Kent Ridge Drama Club was started in 2001 with the aim to provide its members with opportunities to learn about play craft and to put up performances for Kent Ridgeans to enjoy. Members are put through basic Drama movements like miming, voice control and improvisation.

The Drama Club has put up several school assembly skits and performances in the past years, both original and adapted. Members learn the challenges of scriptwriting and adapting, and the necessary backstage duties of prop and costume making, and stage managing and directing. One of the club's objectives is to create a school performance that is totally run by its members.

Kent Ridge Symphonic Band

Established in 2001, Kent Ridge Symphonic Band has grown radically to become the multi-faceted CCA that it is today - a place where leaders are groomed, friendships are built and vibrant generation of musicians are nurtured. The band also plays a part in shaping the artistic and cultural climate of our school with our wide repertoire that ranges from classical work to jazz, pop, rock and even tradtional folk songs.

In the face of our intensive 3-times-a-week practices, enthusiasm, resilience and commitment alwats fill the air. It is this dynamism that saw the band through its second SYF Central Judging competition in 2005 where our goal of a silver award became a sweet reality.

Kent Ridge Voices

The Kent Ridge Choir - "Kent Ridge Voices" - was formed when the school started in January 2000. It aims to be a dynamic vocal group as it strives for choral excellence. To achieve this, the choir has undergone intensive training and voice enrichment under voice specialists.

The Kent Ridge Voices endeavour to continue its journey of excellence and to care a niche for itself within 5 years of its inception. Our members has performed in many school events and public performances.
