Healthy Smoothie at Fuzion
16 July 2004

A group of 30 pupils, mostly from upper secondary, learnt how to make healthy smoothies at Fuzion Café, NUS Branch. It was fun and most interesting since smoothies can be considered a ‘cool’ snack these days. We were told that Monk’s Hill was the first secondary school to participate in this smoothie workshop.

What is a smoothie? Some say, it is the power drink of the future! If done right, it's a delicious and nutritious frosty beverage made from real fruit with all-natural ingredients. Heavier derivatives – like frozen yogurt - can be added to make it an excellent liquid meal replacement that is perfect for weight-watchers and busy people on the go.

Smoothie-making was not as simple as we thought. We had to consider carefully the ingredients, ensuring that they were well-blended. We had to follow the entire process strictly too!

Our pupils were given a valuable lesson on making smoothies. And they got to sample various types of smoothies! During the hands-on session, several pupils were given a chance to concoct their own smoothies while the rest of the pupils provided valuable comments and ideas.

We had an added bonus that day - the Korean Television Channel that was visiting the campus was so impressed by our pupils that they decided to include us in their programme. What a very fruitful day.
