2005 began quietly and solemnly all around the world especially in the areas that were hit by the Tsunami tragedy. Although we were spared the wrath of nature in Singapore , we are made aware of the frailty and preciousness of life and how interconnected we are to the rest of the world.
It drives home even further the need to equip our young with the necessary life skills, knowledge and values that will help them triumph over adversity. In our earnest desire to protect them from the world’s unpleasantness and prevent them from failing, we put them in cocoons and wrap them in wool. We say “Don’t climb or you will fall”, rather than pick up a fallen child and say “Don’t worry. Pick yourself up and try again. I will teach you how to climb.” |
