Principal's Message 2005

Principal's Message 2005 >> 2006 >> 2007 >> 2008 >> 2009

2005 began quietly and solemnly all around the world especially in the areas that were hit by the Tsunami tragedy. Although we were spared the wrath of nature in Singapore , we are made aware of the frailty and preciousness of life and how interconnected we are to the rest of the world.

It drives home even further the need to equip our young with the necessary life skills, knowledge and values that will help them triumph over adversity. In our earnest desire to protect them from the world’s unpleasantness and prevent them from failing, we put them in cocoons and wrap them in wool. We say “Don’t climb or you will fall”, rather than pick up a fallen child and say “Don’t worry. Pick yourself up and try again. I will teach you how to climb.”

In Outram Secondary School , every student is valuable to us. We want to provide the right conditions for his growth and development. Our experienced and caring teachers have designed good academic programmes and varied co-curricular activities to help each student achieve academic success and develop his talent and character. We hope to equip every student with knowledge and discernment of what is good and right and the desire to do what is good and right. In our progressive character development programme, students are taught communication skills, effective habits and other life skills that will help them develop into responsible and resilient individuals and collaborative team players.

Our focus in 2005 is on developing a vibrant learning culture in our school which promotes innovation and enterprise. Every student and every teacher is encouraged to think differently and be innovative. Teachers are encouraged to try new teaching strategies to facilitate student learning. The students are encouraged to take greater ownership of their learning and participate more actively in improving their learning environment.

We look forward to the year ahead with anticipation and excitement.
