The Business and Enterprise (BE) Department aims to provide all Outramians with basic knowledge and skills of innovation, enterprise and financial literacy based on the school’s Curriculum Policy of providing an education that is Integrated; Inclusive; and Innovative.

Role of Department :

Character Development – The BE Department provides training in business skills and knowledge for students through the following programmes which are available to all students and ensure that every student has the opportunity to benefit from the process.

  • Secondary Two Entrepreneurship Programme
  • Secondary Three Financial Awareness Programme

Academic Excellence – While integration of I&E skills and values occur from Secondary One onwards with the implementation of Integrated Project Work and through the formal curriculum for academic subjects such as EL, Mother Tongue and Math, enterprise education is specifically offered at Upper Secondary levels through the following academic subjects/areas.

Talent Development – The B&E Department provides further opportunities for Outramians with the attitude and aptitude for business and entrepreneurship through the following avenues:

  • Advanced Elective Modules (AEMs) by Singapore Polytechnic, School of Business
  • London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Level Two and Three accounting certification
  • Finance Leader training in basic financial literacy (financial literacy carnival 2007)
  • External competitions, talks and seminars
  • Internal competitions – Stock Exchange game
  • CCA – E Club
  • Pushcart sales
  • Mentoring by SP students

Staff Development – All staff, teaching and non-teaching, are encouraged to contribute and participate in I&E activities, such as the following:

  • Innovation in teaching and learning
  • IPW planning and mentoring
  • EWSS suggestion scheme
  • Departmental WITs

S4 Cluster Centre of Excellence for Business and Enterprise – As the cluster COE, the school and the BE Department will be planning a series of programmes for students and teachers of S4 cluster to promote financial literacy and innovation as well as collaborate with cluster schools on related matters. The planned programmes for 2008 are:

  • Personal Finance Seminar
  • Workshop on incorporation of Financial Literacy in Teaching (Primary school teachers)
  • Financial Literacy Pedagogy Workshops for Secondary Teachers


Students

  • Financial Literacy Carnival for Primary School pupils
  • Learning Festival (Teachers and Students)
