Objectives
To
nurture the music talent of every band member
To develop esprit-de-corps among members.
To create opportunities for social and aesthetic
experiences through daily practices and performances
Brief
Description
Our
school concert band was formed in February 1994
with 50 members. Since its inception, the band
has grown from strength to strength. To date,
there are 80 members comprising the recruits,
the intermediate and the performing band.
Programme
A
comprehensive programme has been drawn up for
the members. Band members are taught the theory
of music as well as the mastery skill of playing
the musical instruments based on the 30 week plan.
All band members are trained to be responsible
for the individual instruments issued to them.
A workshop is conducted annually on the proper
maintenance of the instruments.
Performances
Since
its formation, our school band performs regularly
for school functions and public performances.
The band has performed at MacRitchie Park, Chinese
Garden, National Day Celebration at the Hong Kah
North C.C, Raffles Marina and at Boon Lay Garden
Primary for its music appreciation programme.
The band has also participated in two Band Presentations
(SYF), in 1996 ( Bronze ) and 1998 ( COP ).
Day
and Time of Meeting
Tuesdays
& Fridays: 1.30 p.m. to 3.45 p.m. for Primary
3 to Primary 6 band members
a brief ( 15 minutes ) daily practice is conducted
every morning.
Tuesdays
& Fridays: 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. for Primary
1 to Primary 2 band members.
Additional
Information
In
1998, our concert band embarked on a Music Exchange
Programme in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia from
24 November to 1 December. It was our band’s
first overseas project. The project provided opportunities
for 42 of our band members from Primary 3 to Primary
6 to widen their musical experience through a
music workshop conducted by Mr. Phil Davis, the
Director of Music Conservation and clinics by
the members of the Queensland Symphonic Wind.
