ROBOTICS
Objectives
The objectives of the SAPS Robotics Club are that
members will:
1.
Be able to work together effectively as a team
to design, build and program a robot to perform
the desired tasks.
2. Be actively engaged in the problem solving
process of the tasks assigned.
3. Be able to use the knowledge gained from the
academic curriculum and apply it to their tasks.
4. Be able to use the knowledge gained from completing
a robotics task to enhance their learning in the
classroom.
5. Keep a proper journal record of all the training
sessions they attend so that they can reflect
on the problems encountered, how they overcame
them and what they had learnt from the process.
6. Develop and demonstrate a positive working
attitude in the midst of their involvement in
training sessions and/or competitions.
Brief
Description
The
SAPS Robotics Club was started in 2003 as a school
enrichment programme but was formally initiated
as a Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) in 2004. Members
currently use the Lego Mindstorm RCX sets, Lego
NXT sets and I-Robo sets to carry out their tasks.
Targets
1.
To let pupils participate in at least 3 school/cluster/organization-based
events and achieve top four placing in at least
one of them.
2. To participate in the Asia Pacific Robotics
Competition and achieve at least one top award
in participated categories.
3. To participate in the National Junior Robotics
Competition in July and achieve a top 40 placing.
4. To participate in one Regional or International
robotics competition for greater exposure.
Activities
Training
sessions are conducted on Tuesdays and Fridays.
There are two sessions. The JUNIOR members attend
a basic training programme where they are introduced
to the concept of Robotics and build and program
robots to perform simple tasks. SENIOR members
attend a more advanced training programme where
they will learn how to use sensors and other Lego
components to carry out more complex tasks. The
sessions for 2008 are overseen by the Robotics
Trainer who has been engaged from ReliNet.
