Yio Chu Kang Secondary School broke the Guinness Book of World Records for having the biggest tyre-rolling group on 31 st August 2005. This was witnessed and verified by our Guest-of-Honour, Asst Prof C Kunalan, from Nanyang Technological University, School of Physical Education and Sports Science.
All teachers and students turned up in full force at Yio Chu Kang Sports Stadium, roaring to go. The day started with the All Children Exercising Simultaneously (ACES) Day workout at 7:30 a.m. This was followed by the record-breaking event where participants were assigned to roll a tyre each for a distance of 100 metres, without dropping the tyre. Our current record of 400 people rolling the tyre simultaneously for 100 metres has surpassed the previous record, which stands at 138 people. This remarkable event was meticulously planned and organised by the Sports and Wellness Department teachers, as part of our 40th Anniversary celebrations.
Students and teachers alike, were caught in the excitement of accomplishing a feat and of being featured in Channel News Asia, Suria and MediaCorp TV Channel 8. It was indeed a memorable event to foster unity and teamwork, as well as to mark our 40th birthday. We would like to thank Stamford Tyres for generously sponsoring 400 tyres for this record-breaking event.
